In Dolphin Time

Diane Farris

In Dolphin Time (Four Winds Press, Macmillan) is a story that came from a dream of finding, forgetting and rediscovering something wonderful - dolphins! That vivid dream lingered, gently requesting attention. I spent more than a year visiting dolphins in St. Augustine, working on the images in the darkroom and writing to bring In Dolphin Time together. Finding a publisher was a journey in itself. Finally, the manuscript was well received at Macmillan’s Four Winds Press.

As well as love and respect for the ocean and its inhabitants, this narrative has come to mean that, when we are aware, surprising gifts are at hand.

“Pearly, sea-tinged, double exposure photos of dolphins in the unexpected corners of the author/photographer’s mind are accompanied by a brief, poetically personal text. Farris’ mystical association with these smiling cetaceans is hung on the dreamlike fantasy of a child bringing a pair home from the beach in a pocket, admiring them around the house, and returning them to the ocean. Celebrating the connection between “human” and “non”, the story will speak to introspective children and bring a small lump to parental throats while reading aloud.”
